Happy Father's Day!

Our ward doesn't do anything special for dad's on Father's Day which is sooo sad to me.  We were super disappointed to also find out that Russ still had his morning meetings before church today. No extra special breakfast or anything like that for him :(  Since I knew that our ward wasn't going to be doing anything for our dad's I made sure to plan ahead and have something for my little Sunbeams to give to their dad's.  I saw this idea online at Pinterest and dressed it up a bit with digital supplies from one of my designers.  The Sunbeams loved helping put it together during class.  After church they happily ran it to their dad's, and let me tell you there may have been a few jealous dads around church who didn't have a Sunbeam, LOL!

The rest of the day was pretty relaxing.  We just spent time hanging out as a family.  Which is nice since we haven't had a ton of time to do this lately.  We had a nice dinner also.  I felt a little bad that Russ helped cook it, but such is life.  Towards the end of the day, I rounded up the troops to get a picture of them with daddy.  What kind of a photoshoot would it be if there weren't some out takes?

Silly, but cute!

After the photoshoot I was sitting on the couch taking random pictures and was so happy to catch these two.  I have no idea what these two were looking at, but the picture is just so sweet to me.

I'm so grateful to have Russ as a husband and the father of my children.  He does more than his fair share for our family.  He is such a hard worker and always finds time to play with the girls.  They love when he comes home.  You should here the squeals of "daddy" each night when the door opens.  I'm so glad Heavenly Father led me to him!

Tom Turkey

Remember how as a child you would always sing about Tom Turkey hiding from the farmer?  I must have been a morbid child because I loved singing the part about the ax coming down.  I was reminded of this song when Lily brought her homework folder home last Thursday.  We were excited to see that not only did she have her normal penmanship homework, but she had been given a turkey to cut out and decorate.  I worked with Lily on cutting him out, which for a kindergartner is quite a task.  No one should ask a kindergartner to make so many teeny tiny rounded cuts.  She did excellent though!

We decided to wait to decorate him because Lily wanted sparkles {aka glitter} and the only glitter I had was orange.  That night we explained the assignment to Russ and he jumped right on board.  He was so excited to help Lily!  Friday with daddy’s help we found some glitter that would work.  When Lily got home from school her and daddy got right to work on her turkey.

They started off painting good ol’ Tom’s body brown.

Then daddy showed Lily how to split up Tom’s feathers evenly, so that Lily could alternate the colors around his body.

Lily got to work on painting with the glitter glue.

Lily decided at the last second that she wanted to put beans on Tom’s body too.  We broke out the beans that I’ve been meaning to use for beanbags and she  glued them on.  Tom had to dry the rest of Friday and all day Saturday, and part of Sunday before we could take a picture of him.  Lily was quite pleased with her creation!  {I think daddy was too! LOL!}

 Today Tom went to class with Lily.  She reported back to us that the teacher though it was “fantastic” and hung it up on the board with the other kids.  I’m really glad that Russ got to help Lily with this project.  With his ultra long work days it seems like he sometimes misses out on these fun projects, but not this time!

Taking the truck out for a spin!

 Daddy thought today would be a great day for taking his remote car out for a spin.  It has been sitting patiently on the shelf for him and the girls to play with it.  Early this morning daddy plugged in the battery to charge up.  By the time conference ended it was all charged up and ready to go.  While I made dinner daddy, Lily, and Allie had some fun with the truck.

All too soon the battery died.  Sweaty faced and ready to tell me all about their truck adventures the girls came back inside the house.  I love when they just rattle on with excitement about something fun daddy has done with them.  Russ seemed to enjoy his time with the girls as well.  He doesn't really get much time to spend one on one with the girls so I know he always looks forward to these fun times. Thanks for a fun time little red truck!
