Jones Family 1st Vacation: Day 5

I must admit, this was my least favorite day of our whole vacation at Disneyland.  I think it was because we went to California Adventure.  There really isn't a ton for the Lily and Allie to do there.  Also I woke up with a migraine.  I'm sure it was from lack of sleep and allergies.  My hips were killing me too from walking so much...I guess my pregnant body doesn't like that.

We were up early and to our hotel breakfast around 7:00.  This gave us a whole hour to eat and walk across to the park.  I was quite impressed with the continental breakfast our hotel provided.  They had fruit loops which the girls happily consumed.  Russ and I stuck to doughnuts, eggs, and juice.

At 8:00 we were lined up and ready to go into Disneyland.  We had decided to go there for a couple of hours and then head to California Adventure when it opened at 10:00.  We were hoping to hit a few of the busy kid rides at Disneyland early.  The lined moved fast especially since we had strollers and got to move to the front of it.  We quickly made our way to Fantasyland.

The very first thing we did upon arriving in Fantasyland was go to the Mad Hatter and buy some Minnie ears for Lily.  We were going to get some for both the girls but Allie would have absolutely nothing to do with a hat other than her own.  Since we are cheap we chose not to buy any instead of buying some that would never be worn.

Allie was being disruptive while Lily was diligently working on picking hers out, so Russ took her outside.  He saw this fun little statue of the rabbit from Alice in Wonderland and "surprised" me with the picture.

Lily finally settled on this headband of Minnie ears.  I think this was a great choice!

Shortly after we walked over to the teacups and stood in line until the finished.  We then walked on!  I couldn't believe the wait was so short!  Lily wanted a pink teacup so that is what we got...sorry Daddy!  Russ and Lily were in heaven twirling around.  I got a bit nauseous and was surprised by that.  Allie was enjoying herself for the first few seconds but then I noticed her head was spinning in a circle.  I could see she was getting sick from watching things swirl around her, so I got her attention and told her to look at mommy.  The greenness passed quickly when she had something to focus on.  Funny how you don't realize you have to teach kids little things like that.  We took several pictures but this was the only one that turned out.  At least it was a cute one!

  After getting off the ride we saw this teacup and the girls climbed in it thinking it was the same ride! LOL!  We were able to get a cute picture of them together this time at least.

We headed over to the carousel because Allie wanted to ride the "neighs!"  Hmmm....need to work on saying horsies I guess!  By this time I had shoved the camera at Russ since I was sick and he got some great photos while we were riding it.

By this time it was 9:30 and I felt like we should go get in line at California Adventure.  Soooo glad that we did.  The line was HUMONGOUS!  Nothing like Disneyland's teeny fast moving line.  The girls patiently ate their snacks while we slowly moved through the gates. {Did I mention the girls were complete ANGELS for this whole trip.  Seriously, hardly any complaining or fighting the whole time! Yippee!}  I sent Russ running ahead to get us fast passes to World of Color show.  The line for that ended up being 45 min!  So the girls and I wandered around since we didn't want to go on any rides without daddy.

While wandering we found Mater and Lightening McQueen.  I totally cut in line on accident and got us a picture without standing and waiting.  Lily loved being able to touch the cars.

Daddy finished up with the Color line.  We were grateful that he scored us tickets for the early showing.  He actually had been the first person to start getting the later show when he mentioned to a ticket person he had young kids.  The ticket guy swapped our tickets out!  Wahoo!

We headed over to Toy Story Midway Mania because we had heard the line can get out of hand since it is so popular.  Ummm...yeah, the line was ATROCIOUS!  75 mins to wait.  We asked a ticket guy and he said the line wouldn't get shorter the rest of the day unless we came during the World of Color show.  Well that wasn't happening so we stuck it out.  Shortly after joining the line Allie fell asleep.  Poor Russ had to deal with that dead weight for an hour or so!  Needless to say his back was hurting a bit the rest of the day.  They entrance to this ride was pretty cool though.  They had a GIANT talking Mr. Potato head that Lily was enthralled with watching.  Also they had some pretty cool posters about the ride to look at.   Off to side of the ride they were promoting Toy Story 3 with this HUGE toy box.  Check out Lily all boxed up and ready to be shipped.  Not sure I would want to buy a Lily doll that pull that face though!

 

Was the ride worth the 75 min it wait?  Heck ya!  The game was awesome!  I've never played something so fun in my life.  Lily was able to even to do it!  Russ said Allie enjoyed wearing her glasses and watching instead of playing.  At least she liked it!

I needed some rest after standing in that line so we went for a shorter ride...King Triton's Carousel.  I'm not sure how I managed to not lose it on this because I was feeling like I was gonna pass out.  Russ and the girls enjoyed the ride though.

By this time we were all starving so we went and had some chicken strips and fries at some vendor nearby.  The food helped me to start feeling better, and I dug out some Tylenol to take.  Oh pure relief once that kicked in!  I now could enjoy the day with the family.

I had always wanted to take Lily on Soarin' Over California so we headed that way.  Since we had snagged fast passes earlier in the day Lily and I literally walked on again! Suh-weet!  Lily got a teeny bit nervous when we lifted off the ground, but she loved flying.  I had to keep reminding her not to yell from excitement.  The visual affects had quite an effect on me, I felt like I had been on a large roller coaster as my stomach dropped every time the picture flew down.  Pregnancy can sure change the way rides go for you, lol!  Lily ran off the ride excited to tell daddy all about it.  When learned that she got to go on it again with daddy she was so excited.  Gotta love the whole parent swap feature!  Before Russ left he told me to check the camera, there was another surprise!  I checked it and laughed, apparently I had forgotten to tell him we had seen Mater and Lighting McQueen already!  Allie apparently loved Mater and kept standing by him.

Allie and I went and did some souvenir shopping while Lily and Daddy were flying.  We found a Tinkerbell Bell Trading pin for my mom.  I loved that it combined two things my mom collects...a bell...and pins.  I also bought Allie matchbox Mater which she could hardly wait to get out of the package.  She even slept with him that night!  Lily got a pair of airplane pilot wings that had her name on it and a little bubble saying Soarin' Over California.  When I gave it to her she gave me the biggest hug and said "Thanks Mom!"  Who could ask for anything better?  She promptly had me put it on her shirt and showed it off to ever ticket taker from there on out!

The girls were getting restless so we thought we would try and make it to some of the shows in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot.  We hit up the Muppet Vision 3D.  We had some premiere seating that we had received from buying our DL tickets online.  That seating put us right up front in the middle.  No one was really in front of us so it worked perfect for the girls.  Allie was done with 3D glasses by this time and I'm not sure she really enjoyed the show.  She did sit quietly though.  Lily that it was fun but a bit scary.  I guess all the cannons going off could be scary.  It was a good rest for us to say the least.

We then headed to Allie's favorite ride.hehehehe....Disney's Playhouse.  It was a fun little theatre that you sit on the floor and watch stories from four Disney TV shows.  There was Mickey's Clubhouse, Little Einsteins, Winnie the Pooh, and Handy Mandy.  The kids were encouraged to dance and play with the puppets on stage.  We were seated at the back which made it a bit difficult for Allie to see considering that quite a few parents let their kids stand during the WHOLE performance even though they had been repeatedly told by attendees to sit down.  Allie and Lily both enjoyed the dancing and playing.  Russ and I enjoyed the sitting and resting! LOL!

Next up was the Animation Academy.  We had heard the Turtle Talk with Crush was a must see at this academy.  We had to wait for one show to get out but that was okay.  We were busy doing things like saying hello to Snow White!  Allie again ran right up to her to pose for a picture!  Lily was all smiles too!

We had some snacks to finish off our wait.  Since we were at the beginning of the line we able to sit on the Lily Pads right next to the screen.  Lily thought it was silly they were name after her!  Crush came and talked with us, and it was so fun to watch him answer questions from the crowd.  Animation has come such a long way since I was little!  Lily was a bit disappointed that she didn't get to ask him a question like some of the other kids, but we assured her she would get to do some else fun like that later.  We looked at a few more things in the animation center before heading out to find a spot for the parade.

We were late getting a spot for the parade and ended up with a kind of crummy spot where they didn't perform.  Rats!  But we saw the whole thing and that is what is most important.  Some older girls {think tweens} who were standing in front us had Lily come stand in front of them so she could see.  It is incredible how thoughtful people can be!  Allie dozed off right before the parade and missed most of it.  I took an incredible amount of pictures.  Some had heads in them, but these ones didn't....

Wearily we trudged all the way from the parade route up Downtown Disney to the Rainforest Cafe where Russ decided to tell me he wasn't really feeling like eating.  I threw a hormonal hissy fit and went off dragging Lily back down Downtown Disney.  I calmed down halfway through Downtown Disney at  a pizza joint where I ordered pizza for me and the girls.  Russ ended up eating even though he wasn't hungry.  The pizza was okay, but not my favorite.  The girls ate it up though.

We slowly made our way to the Disney store at the end of Downtown Disney.  We spent quite a bit of time wandering around in there.  The girls chose to use some of their souvenir money on stuffed animals.  Lily got a Mickey Mouse dressed up for some sort of a celebration.  Allie chose a princess Minnie.   Odd choices for both of them, but they loved them nevertheless.

By this time we were pushing both girls in the strollers since they were worn out from all the walking.  We found our way to our spots for World of Color.  They weren't the best spots, probably because we had to trade out our tickets, but we could see.  There was a really fun pre-show where a bunch of the characters came out and did some dancing, and getting the crowd to cheer for them.  The show started and it was quite amazing!  It really put the water show at the Bellatio to shame.  The water went as high as the Ferris Wheel that was right behind it, and seeing the images on the water was cool.  Definitely worth the wait!

After the show we headed back to the hotel.  We were too tired to stay out any later.  Since we would be getting up early to pack the car it was doubly important to get to bed semi-early.

Jones Family 1st Vacation: Day 4

***Before leaving for our vacation a friend had recommended using The Unofficial Guide to Disneyland.  I had it with us in our supplies and that book was soooo helpful!  After planning this trip we were mocked by quite a few people asking why in the world we would go to Disneyland at the busiest time of the year.  They also declared that we would be stuck in long lines and would die of heat.  Keep this in mind as you read on about our adventure!  Also, please know that this post is VERY heavily loaded with pictures.***

Bright and early we were up to make the hour trek to Disneyland.  I wanted to be in line when the gates open.  I'm crazy like that.  At the last second possible I woke Lily up to get dressed.  She looked at me with tired eyes and then rolled over.  I asked her if she wanted to go to Disneyland and she literally jumped out of her bed.  Silly girl!  We headed downstairs and had Doug take a picture of us. 

Since this was our very first family trip to Disneyland {or anywhere for that matter} I went a little overboard and made us matching t-shirts.  Yep, I'm THAT kind of mom.  Russ was good natured about it, and the girls were ecstatic about them since they had a balloon on them.  I did get a boost of confidence about my skills though when no less then 10 people asked where we had bought our shirts so they could go by some.  YAY FOR ME!!!

Upon arriving at the Disney Strip {you know where all the hotels are?} we got a parking pass from our hotel, parked the car, and gathered everything we would need for the LONG day.  Key essentials included sunscreen, hats, snacks, two strollers, and lots of water!

Following our guide book we hauled the girls to Critter Country for Russ to go on Splash Mountain.  I was determined to let Russ go on some of his rides even though me and the girls couldn't go on them.  As Russ jumped into line, Lily looked up at the logs coming down the massive waterfall and insisted she wanted to go on the ride with daddy.  I asked her if she was sure, which she agreed to, and I sent her on her merry way with daddy.  I waited about five minutes before capturing this lovely photo of a terrified screaming Lily and laughing Russ! {Click on it to enlarge and zoom in.  It gets fuzzy but the faces are PRICELESS!}

Lily came running up to me and I asked her if she had fun.  She started to nod her head yes, then emphatically shook her head no.  I couldn't resist laughing.  We walked her around the corner to The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh for a nice peaceful ride.  Okay so we found out that this ride is actually quite loud and in the dark, but Lily and Allie still did okay.  We hopped right on the ride, and the ride attendants even took a picture of us since it wasn't busy.

 During the ride{and most other rides} I gave the camera to Russ and let him snap away.  He always captures the coolest shots without even trying.  I wish I was as talented as him.  We have a lot of pics from this ride but I really love this one he got of Winnie the Pooh himself!

We walked over to New Orleans Square to ride Russ's favorite ride of all time....THE HAUNTED MANSION.  We lied through our teeth to get Lily inside of the mansion which upon entering the doors she promptly started crying and trying to claw her way back out.  We reassured her that it wouldn't be too bad if she closed her eyes.  She made it through even when some jerk who saw her upset let out an evil laughter as we stood in the room where the walls lift off.  She did peek at some of the ride but in general she kept her head buried in my laugh.  The funny thing was Allie just sat there calm as can be looking around at everything.  She was wide eyed with wonder!

We quickly hopped on Pirates after the mansion.  Again our wait was less then a minute.  SWEET!  Lily was whimpering before getting on the boat but I assured her this wasn't a scary ride.  She believed me and settled in.  She enjoyed most of this ride except she was very concerned about the skeleton pirates.  We had a short lesson on death which Lily now calls "being zero"  Apparently when you die your age is "zero"  Russ and I enjoyed seeing where they had hid Captain Jack since we hadn't been on the ride since he was added.  Allie was still just wide eyed{which was her general  reaction the whole trip} and trying to soak everything in.

The park was starting to get busier when we headed Adventureland to go on the Jungle Cruise.  While waiting in line the girls got hyped up with the anticipation of seeing elephants, monkeys, and tigers "up close without bars".  After a 5 or 10 minute wait we caught the last spot on a boat which turned out to be a really great vantage point.  We were able to see both sides of the river.  I was in charge of the camera this time and loved this picture of my family.

And Lily was completely ENTHRALLED with seeing the animals.  She wouldn't even look at the camera for a picture for fear she might miss an animal. 

The boat stopped long enough to get this fun picture of one of the "elephants".  Apparently he was having a good ol' time in his shower.  Lily got a good laugh out of him, and Allie couldn't stop pointing and saying 

"l -fant!"

After embarking back on land we headed back to New Orleans square to jump on the train.  This might have been Allie's favorite ride.  It was one of the only rides that we got more than the wide eyed wonder.  She kept declaring "tain! tain! tain!" until we were able to finagle us, the two strollers and a few other things onto.  She was then happy to sit still and enjoy the ride.  Occasionally she would turn to us and say, "tain" just make sure we remembered we were on there.  Somehow amid the multiples times we went on the train I never got a picture of it or us.  I must have been too concerned about juggling all of our stuff, or keeping ahold of two girls hands who only wanted to hold daddy's hands.  Of course daddy was off carrying the strollers so mommy wouldn't have to lift anything to heavy.

The train dropped us off at the entrance to Mickey's Toon Town.  We were heading for the Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin when we spotted Pluto!  Allie adores Pluto so we dropped our agenda to go meet him.  Allie loved standing about 10 feet away and waving at him, but would go no closer.  So Russ got to be in the picture.  Allie was comfortable in Daddy's arms and stared at Pluto, but wouldn't touch even when he wanted a high five.  Lily of course was her silly hyper self giving high fives and hugs.

We finished with Pluto with standing in line for only about 10 minutes, which is super good for a character!  As we finished we turned around and saw Goofy at his house.  We figured we might as well grab him since he was out.  Goofy is one of Lily's favorites and she couldn't stop laughing at his antics.  A took a couple of pictures thinking Goofy was pointing at me with the pen we had given him to sign his autograph.  Apparently he was trying to give it back to Russ but couldn't quite see where to hand.  By this time we had taken up a bit of time so we had to move on with a less then great pic of him :(

At this time both girls saw Minnie at her house and were begging to go see her.  Since this trip was all about them we obliged.  Minnie's line was a bit longer but definitely what I would call manageable.  She was really cute with the girls and made heart signs at them.  Allie seemed the most comfortable with her and almost let me put her down.  I had taken pity on Russ by this time and said Minnie could be and "all girls" picture. LOL!

I don't remember ever having gone in Minnie's house before, but that is where you get ushered after taking photos with her.  So we went in and I was quite impressed with all the gadgets that the kids could play with in there.  The coolest was the dishwasher that you turned on and the dishes floated around like they were in a washing machine!  Lily laughed and laughed over this!  Allie loved turning the knob again and again to watch it.  While there the girls also had a short tea party at Minnie's table....

and took a short nap on Minnie's bed!

Exiting Minnie's house we jumped over the fence to see Mickey!  His house wasn't quite as entertaining as Minnie's but there were plenty of things for the girls to play with and touch.  Upon entering Mickey's movie barn {which is attached to his house} we encountered our first long line.  Of course the line to see Mickey was 15 - 20  minute way, but the time went by fast.  I deeply credit this to the fact that while in line they were playing old black and white Mickey cartoons.  It really helped pass the time and the girls didn't even notice the wait.  Upon meeting Mickey we discovered he is actually pretty short and was dressed in his "Sorcerer's Apprentice" costume.

Breaking back into the sunshine we again started to head for Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin when we saw a fairly long line.  Who could it be for?  None other than Donald Duck!  We hurriedly got in line and good thing too, because the line was closed two people after us.  Wahoo for good timing.  The girls got restless waiting in this line, so I stood and Russ took them to Goofy's car which was nearby.  Some people wouldn't move out of the way as Russ tried to take a picture of the girls driving, but he did get this cute one of Allie.

Donald was GREAT with the kids.  He took a lot of time with them goofing off.  Maybe it was because we were at the end of line, who knows?  I love this shot we got of him signing an autograph though.  He just looks so happy! I know I'm weird....

By this time the girls needed a short break.  We went around the corner into Goofy's Playhouse/ Garden and let them play on the slide set there.  Lily climbed into this jack-o-lantern to eat her snack.

And I got a kick out of this Goofy scarecrow.  It is amazing all the little details the Disney people think up!

We again set out for Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin but had short stopping off at the fire station.  The girls were fighting over who got to drive so neither one would look at mommy!  Hmph!  At least daddy was obedient and smiled!

We FINALLY made it over to the Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin and found the line to be a 15 minute wait.  But halfway through that wait the ride broke down.  We decided to stick out the wait since Allie was sleeping pleasantly on Russ's shoulder.  The 15 minute wait turned into 45 minutes.  By this time Allie was awake and we all could enjoy the ride...kind of.  For some reason Lily and I had trouble getting our car to spin, but we still were able to see quite a bit of the ride.

By this time the girls were starving so we walked ourselves to the picnic area where we had a stashed a cooler earlier that morning.  We ate a nice lunch of crackers, cheese, and sandwiches.  The girls stretched their legs a bit more before we headed back in to Disneyland.  We decided to get the famous, stand by the flowers picture.  It turned ok considering a Disney Photographer took it.  {You would think if photography was their job they would be a little bit better at it.  None of our pictures taken by the Disney Photographers were good, even the ones they took with their cameras.}

We walked ourselves to the far end of Disneyland to go see Its a Small World.  Looking at it from the outside I knew something was different about the building but couldn't put my finger on it until we got home and I was looking at older Disney pictures.  Apparently the building used to be multicolored until they recently remodeled it.  It now sparkles with white!

Russ was sooo not looking forward to this ride.  He thinks it is annoying.  But for the girls he put on a happy face before going in.

Allie sat with me on this one and quite enjoyed what she saw.  She would point at things and tell me the name of them.  It was fun to see her excited instead of just in awe.

I took a million and one pictures in there, but here are a few of my favorites.

Upon exiting from Small World Lily instantly asked to go on it again.  Out of pity for Russ's sanity I declared that we would go on it again later.  She was bummed for a bit until we told her we were on our way to Autopia!  Who doesn't love Autopia?  I was so excited when we got there to use our fast passes and only waited five minutes.  I had seen the wait time for everyone else and it was over an hour long!  Eeeks!  Lily was thrilled to learn that she got steer the car all by herself.  That privilege quickly disappeared after the 10th time of bumping into the inner track thing.  Mommy's tummy wasn't feeling so good from the jerking around.  She didn't mind me helping a bit though.

About this time we decided it was time for a small snack, and not one that we had packed either.  It was getting kind of hot {high 80s} so we decided to cool down with a frozen treat.  Lily really enjoyed her strawberry fruit pop.

By pure accident we sat down to eat them right where they were doing a Jedi training session.  This was fun to watch.  Russ started to wonder if Lily would like to participate in it.  We asked her and she told us flat out "NO!  The man in the black is too scary{ie Darth Vader}"  She did enjoy watching it though.  Allie wandered around.  I'm sure her legs were sore considering she had been in the stroller most of the day.  Truly though she was a great sport about it. 

We decided that hitting the Princess Fantasy Fair would be on our agenda next.  {okay, our guide book decided that for us}  We were lucky enough to walk into the fair as some of the princess were signing autographs.    As we got to the front of the line I walked Allie up to see Aurora.  Instead of clinging to me she let go of my hand, ran up to Aurora and shyly waved hi.  Apparently only the costumed people were scary to Allie.  Allie played shy while Lily did all the talking for her.  She was so excited to finally meet Sleeping Beauty. 

Shortly after this the Princess's went away to pamper themselves.  We had to wait for the next event to start, but the wait was short.  Ariel came out and told her and Prince Eric's love story.  Lily loved listening to this new story.  I couldn't believe that I had never told her the story of Ariel! 

Allie was starting to get a bit anxious about sitting still so we decided to leave and come back later to see the rest of the princesses.  We moseyed on over to the Monorail so the girls could ride on the "really fast speedy train" as they had been calling it all day.  Surprisingly we had to wait to get on it. I've never had that happen before.  As we were waiting on the platform to get on some ladies asked us if we had ever ridden on the monorail before.  Russ mentioned that we had but our girls had not.  They ladies then requested that we take their spots which was for the area with the captain!  We would be at the very front of the monorail!  Excitedly we said  thank you.  Rest assured the ladies just waited for the next monorail where they got to sit with the captain too, but wasn't that so nice of them to let us take their spot?  This was not only new for the girls but new for Russ and I too.  It was night to have a birds eye view of the parks as we went around them.  My picture with Lily turned out really neat with the submarine lagoon behind us.  Russ and Allie's...well, at least they are in the picture right?! LOL!

The monorail ride put Allie to sleep which concerned us a bit since we were heading to dinner.  Like a good girl though she woke up right when we got to Denny's.  We had found out earlier in the week that one Russ's cousin and his family were going to be at Disneyland the same time we were.  It was nice to meet up with them and talk a little.  Rebecca and I had kept saying it was like we knew each other since we had been reading each others blogs to keep our hubby's up to date on each other. 

Denny's had a little souvenir area where Lily saw a coloring book that has one of those magic markers with it that reveal the colors on the page.  She begged to use her $5 souvenir money on it, and I agreed.  Soooo glad I did.  That thing never left her side for the rest of the vacation!

After checking in to our hotel we rested for about 30 min.  We all needed so me time OFF our feet.  Lily colored in her newly acquired coloring book the whole time.  It was getting late and the girls were starting to just look exhausted so we pulled out the strollers and blankets and let them rest as we walked our way to the fireworks.  Once finding a spot to watch the fireworks the girls got all hyped up by the noise around them.  I pulled out some glow sticks for them to play with.  I was hoping that this would keep them occupied and easy for us to spot if they started to wander off. 

The fireworks began and I so wish I had thought to record them.  In combination of Tinker Bell and Dumbo flying around during most of it, the choice of music, the fireworks, and the amazing lighting, the whole show was breathtaking.  Lily loved seeing Tinker Bell flying around, and Allie couldn't stop saying Bell, Bell, Bell!  

We rushed over to the waiting line for Fantasmic after the fireworks.  Lily made friends with the people in front of us and they mentioned that they would try and stay right in front of the strollers so the girls wouldn't get trampled.  I laughed it off until the line started moving, then I was so grateful for those nice people.  It was crazy nuts as people ran into you trying to be the first to get a spot for Fantasmic.  I know a few people almost fell on the girls as we were pushing them, and Russ said he got a few ankles when people cut him off.  As the crowd dispersed I saw a park worker and asked them where a good spot would be for kids to see.  She kindly took us to a really good spot, and we waited....and waited.  Finally I sent Russ off to get us a snack because the girls needed something to distract them.  He came back with a nice container of popcorn which kept the girls occupied until Fantasmic started.  The show was really cool with more fireworks and lots of fun "mini performances" within the major performance.  Even though it is kind of rough to get into I would HIGHLY recommend taking time to go see the show!

Sluggishly we drug ourselves back to the hotel to sleep.
