Bugs run rampant down here in the "swamp-y" south. We've had our fair share of run ins with them. I had been pleased that we hadn't had any major bug bites in about two months. I always have to worry about bug bites now because of Lily's weird histamine reactions and the fact that Allie seems not to deal with the bites well either. She gets random infections from them.
Today we had gone to playgroup at a new park. Lily and Allie were having an amazing time playing on the toys with the other kids. I was a ways off talking to some moms when I saw Allie start ambling towards me for no particular reason. I saw her fall but didn't think anything of it until my friend yelled, "Ants! Ants! Ants!"
Allie had landed with both her hands in a fire ant hill. I swatted them off as fast as possible, but they still got in some good bites. Her left hand got the worst of it. It swelled up pretty fast and stayed that way for a few hours. The poor girl didn't cry at all, but just wanted me to hold her.
I haven't noticed any infections popping up this time, the bites just look sore!
