5 year old checkup

Edited:  I weighed Lily this morning and MY numbers were right.  The doctors weighed her wrong.  But she is still a tall skinny thing! LOL! Numbers have been fixed below if you are curious.

The doctors didn't give me a sheet with this info on it so I'm writing this down quickly before I forget.

Height: 43.5 in (75 percentile)
Weight: 38 lbs (25 percentile)
BMI: 26th percentile

I was quite surprised when I heard these statistics.  I knew Lily had thinned out a little bit lately, but I had know idea it was this much!  I should have known though because many people have commented on it lately.  Other than statistic it was quite a routine appointment.  I did find out for sure that Lily doesn't have the flu, so I haven't been a bad mom sending her to school, nor has she been getting anyone sick.  PHEW!  The docotr wasn't very helpful in diagnosing the headaches and throwing up other than to say it could be migraines, and he pities her if that is what it is.  Hmph!  Doctors can be soooo unhelpful sometimes.  Hopefully whatever is plaguing her will pass.

Tooth Problems

Russ left for California yesterday.  That should have been my first clue that something was going to go wrong.  Always, Always, something goes wrong while he is there.  Last night I was trying to be a good mommy and give the girls a bath.  Until the new baby is born Lily and Allie are going to continue taking baths together.  After that Lily will be on her own because we can't fit three in our tub.
Lily tends to get Allie riled up in the bath tub.  She encourages her to jump up and down to make big splashes.  I've talked to her many times about it, but she doesn't listen very well.  Last Lily had got Allie to start doing this, I was tired and YELLED at both of them to stop because Allie could get hurt.  I turn around and Lily gets Allie to start doing it again, I turn to say stop when Allie slips and whacks her mouth on the bathtub.
Automatic wailing and bleeding starts.  Lily got sent straight to bed with all "nightly" privileges taken away.  It took me a good 30 min of soothing to get Allie calmed down enough to inside her mouth.  She was complaining about "owies" and I could see blood coming from somewhere.  I finally discovered that blood was coming from behind one of her upper front teeth.  If I touched it she screamed in pain.  I couldn't tell whether it had been moved or not from the fall.  I decided to let Allie sleep on it and see if it was better in the morning.

This morning I tried to get Allie to open her mouth up which she adamantly refused so I figured unless she complained I would leave her alone.  She ate breakfast okay, but then she bumped her tooth with her sippie and the wailing began again.  I decided it was time to see if our dentist would look at her.  Something wasn't normal.

We stopped at the dentist's office as soon as it opened in hopes that they could slip us in before it got too busy.  I was still wondering if they would even see us because our dentist is not a pediatric dentist and they refer us out when Lily has to get any work done.  But because of the situation our dentist agreed to see us.  Allie was clinging to me in terror as we walked back to the room.  I could tell that she was associating this place with the doctors office.

The nurse tried to ease her anxiety by playing rocket ship {going up and down on the chair} and making her a balloon out of a glove.  The air noise freaked Allie out and she started to whimper.  The nurse left her alone after that.  Dr. Bell came in and we discussed what happened.  He said unless it was turning black or had been pushed up there was no need to do anything.  With Allie laying on me he asked her to open wide and too my surprise she did!  This guy seriously is the best dentist {for kids and adults}  Dr. Bell determined by looking at it that it probably hadn't moved the tooth but when she whacked her mouth she had bruised the tooth and the surrounding gum.  He said it would highly sensitive for awhile, just like any other bruise, and that we could treat it with Tylenol.  What a relief to know it was something "non permanent".

While I was trying to get out of the chair {those things aren't made for pregnant ladies} the nurse took Allie to the prize chest.  She gave Allie TWO bracelets for being brave.  All day Allie has been wearing them around saying "my bray-let"  It is so cute!  Just like the dentist said her tooth has been sensitive today, but nothing too bad.

A Little Progress

A few people have asked if Lily goes all day to school. Sadly yes!  School is from 8:00 - 2:30 for kindergartners in this area.  I haven't noticed it taking a tole on Lily other than at night she actually goes to bed instead of keeping her sister up until 10:00 or 11:00!  Okay she is a little more cranky but that is to be expected.

A little progress has been made in our house today.  Allie and I left Lily at her school today and walked home without Allie crying!  We even made it in the house without any complaints about Lily.  I think she is starting to understand the procedure that Lily will come back later in the day.  The poor thing has been irritable most mornings and I really think it is because she has lost her best friend to play.  Mom {and even dad when he is home} just doesn't cut it. Allie has so many adjustments that she has to make this year and hope she continues to do okay with them.

First day of school

Our morning started bright and early at 6:00 when Lily crawled into our bed and asked if it was school time.  I tried my best to go back to sleep but of course didn't.  We got up quietly so as not to wake Allie up, but she met us at our doorway with a huge smile.  While I helped Lily get dressed, double check her school supplies, and finish packing her lunch, Russ made a breakfast of eggs, bacon, toast, and orange juice per Lily's request.  Lily was bouncing off the wall with excitment.  She saw that i was grabbing the camera so I could take pictures and she promptly stole it from me so she could take some pictures.  She captured this cute picture of Allie.  I know Allie looks like a ghost in it, but look how cute her hair looks.  I'm finally able to put a bow in it! Oh and don't forget those cute chubby cheeks that are just begging to be pinched.

We walked outside to take a few pictures of Lily.  At this time I realized that Lily was being really quiet.  Very unusual for her.  After a bit of coxing we got a smile out of her.  Look at those dimples!!

Allie wanted a picture with sister and Lily obliged.  Such sweet girls aren't they?!

We started the two block towards school and Lily started dragging her feet.  She kept complaining her backpack was too heavy with the supplies in it so I took it for her, but that didn't help/  She continued to go slower, and slower.  She was walking slower than Allie!  We finally dragged her up to her school sign for one more picture and she stood there frowning and complaining.  This time we threatened to get a picture{Aren't I such a good mom?! Hehehe!}  Sorry I had to blur it, but you know we do have to consider safety.

We all walked into the cafeteria{aka drop off zone} and helped Lily find the line she was supposed to sit in.  Russ, Allie, and I stood on the sidelines while the kids said the pledge.  By the way did you know there was a Texas pledge?  Me neither, but there is!  Lily will have to teach it to us someday! LOL!  As the teachers prepared to take the kids to their rooms I went over Lily to hold her hand the way there.  Instead of holding my hand Lily grabbed me around the waist and said in frightened voice, "Momma I'm going to miss you!"

So that was why my rambunctious girl had disappeared, she was nervous!  I gave her a hug back and reassured her that everything would be fine.  As we were walking out of the gym Lily saw a younger friend from dance class{who wouldn't be going to school} and they waved at each other.  Seeing someone she knew put Lily at ease.  Apparently she had been nervous because she knew absolutely no one at school.  I got stopped at the office because I didn't have a badge on {would've been nice if they told me I needed one before hand!}  but Lily continued on to her class with no problems.

As we turned to leave, Allie FREAKED out.  She started crying and saying, "Lily! Lily!"  Poor thing didn't want to leave her sister there.  We got home and Allie was having a rough time.  She wanted her sister back.  Ahead of time we had agreed to do something fun with her because we knew this was going to be a big adjustment for her.  So we headed over to Bird Poop Park Junior Service League park.   Allie played for quite some time on the slides.  She even got daddy to go down the big twisty slide!

The park seemed to take her mind off a Lily for a few minutes.  After awhile though she kept coming and sitting with us asking "where Lily?"  It was time for another special trip.  We headed to Target and let her browse the toy aisle for quite some time.  Since it was just her we were able to let her out of the cart so she could REALLY interact with the toys.  She enjoyed herself.

At home Daddy spent quite a bit of time playing Little People with her.  I took some time to cook a treat with her.  She loves to help cook!  The whole time though she kept asking, "Where Lily?"  Lunch time was a minor melt down when she protested that "Lily lunch"  I could tell she was worried that Lily wasn't going to get lunch.  It was heartbreaking watching her!

Finally the time came for us to go pick Lily up.  Allie saw Lily first and pointed excitedly while declaring, "Lily! Lily! Lily!"  Lily ran up to us and started talking immediately about all the things she did.  She also proceeded to tell us that she didn't cry, but was sad for just a bit at the beginning of school.  What a brave girl!  We got home and let Allie out of her stroller and immediately she gave Lily a big hug and a kiss.  Who knew those two loved each other so much?! LOL!

Overall it was successful day for both girls.  Lily is excited to go back tomorrow, and Allie...well, she'll get used to it soon I'm sure!

Baby Kicks

I need to record this before I forget.  Back when I was around 16 weeks I felt the baby move and move very strongly.  I told Russ who put his hand on my stomach to feel.  Sure enough the baby moved and he felt it!  This is such a novelty for both of us since with Lily and Allie we were not able to feel them move until MUCH later on in my pregnancy.  With this baby I feel daily kicks, and they are STRONG kicks.  Not just mild movements.  In fact a lot of the time it hurts because the baby will get excited and go through a kicking storm.  Just yesterday I told the baby to calm down because it was hurting me again, and it gave to more quick kids then nor more for awhile.  It appears this baby is learning to listen to mommy at an early age!

Teeth and Teachers

Remember back in December how thrilled I was that Lily didn't have any cavities?  Yeah, not so thrilled anymore.  In July I found out that Lily would not be needing any filling, but THREE caps instead!  Say what?!  How does that happen in just six months?  Apparently the calcification we have been brushing to death so it wouldn't progress into cavities did exactly that.  It started pitting and you can't put a filling down by the gums of teeth so you have to put caps on.  That day in July I cried for a good 15 minutes in the car.  Exactly one year before we had spent OODLES of money getting those three teeth filled with mulitple fillings.

Today was the day to get the caps put on.  I took Allie with me even thought the appointment was going to be over 2 hours long.  She did beautifully, so that was a relief.  After Lily got her sedation medicine I had to practically hold her too the chair.  It always makes her so hyper and frigidity.  Poor girl could only bounce up or down but not sit still.  The nurse took her back and apparently Lily enjoyed talking about strawberry shortcake and friends.  We figured out later that she was talking about the strawberry scented laughing gas, which reminded her of strawberry shortcake.  Lily came out proudly showing her "shiny" teeth.  We asked for the silver ones since the dentist told us that the white ones  don't always hold up as well as the silver.  There is no way I'm going to pay to have a crown replaced if I can avoid it in the first place.  Before leaving the dentist told me that we need to start brushing Lily's teeth better.  I about punched the lady.  I've told her before that we brush Lily's teeth almost every night.  {I mean everyone misses a day or two here and there, right?}  Lily gets no soda, no juice, no gummy foods like fruit snacks, and VERY little candy.  Like one small piece a week.  The kid just got rotten teeth from me.  As I explained that to the dentist she just gave me the whole, "you're just a mom and you don't know anything"  look.  UGH!  So we are now at four capped teeth and I'm sure within the next year we'll probably be adding another one.  Stupid calcification!!!!

We walked out and got in the car, and as I was getting ready to back out I happened to look in the rearview mirror and saw Lily's puffy little face and I couldn't handle it.  I bawled again for 15 mins.  Sweet Lily said, "mom its okay I got shiny teeth now".  She always knows what to say to make me smile.  I calmed myself down and drove us home amid a huge downpour.  It was so bad at times that I couldn't see more than a few feet in front me.  I'm getting used to this kind of weather living here.  I enjoyed the rain because I needed the gray moodiness it cast on the world.  It matched my emotions perfectly!

We got home and Lily was loopy but we had to go to her Meet the Teacher day at her school.  I grabbed the papers I was supposed to fill out and walked the two blocks to school.  Lily wasn't looking so good when we got there.  She really needed to sleep off her medicine but we didn't have time for that.  I walked into the school expecting a quick 20 min trip.  Nope!  We were there for 2 hours!  We stood 1 hour 40 minutes in line  just to hand in our papers.  Lily sat on the floor most the time and looked like she was going to pass out any minute.  Allie was of course tired of sitting in her stroller and squawked in protest a few times.  I felt like I was going to pass out.  Pregnant woman are not meant to stand in place that long.  I finally shoved the papers at the volunteer and got Lily's teacher assignment.

Lily was excited to meet Mrs. Broom, but she was even more excited when she found out that there was a kitchen and a doll house in her classroom! LOL!  I had to drag her away from them in order to get her to say hi to Mrs.  Broom.  Lily seemed to get along well with her teacher, so I think this will be a fairly smooth transition for her.  Mrs Broom seems okay too.  I discovered today that I'm having a hard time being a parent and not the teacher.  There were a few things that I thought, "Well I would have done it this way..."  I caught myself though and I'm trying to relax.  I never realized I missed teaching so much until I was at the school with Lily.

School starts on Monday and Lily seems excited to go to school, but is unsure about the whole process.  I don't think she understands that mom and dad won't be there.  In her head I think she thinks it will be like church where she will see us occasionally through out.  Hmm...I'm sure she will be fine, but will her emotional wreck momma?  Who knows?!

Little Ballerina

In May right before Lily's recital her dance teacher told us that she was having some professional photographers come in and we could get pictures taken.  Even though the price seemed extremely steep I figured they were pros and I should get some pics taken of Lily.  It took awhile to get them back and then we went on vacation, and they kind of got buried in my stack of "to do" things.  They resurfaced recently and I thought I should post them.

I'm glad I have pictures of Lily with her dance class and by herself, but I'm disappointed in the quality for the price I paid.  Next year we will be going to a much cheaper photo studio.  But check out how darling Lily and her friends are!

Imagination at Work

Cleaning my kitchen is a quite a task lately.  Not only is it huge with tons of counters that get dirty, but the girls always want to help.  There is nothing wrong with the girls helping except for the fact that they get frustrated when I "reclean" what they have "cleaned".  So for my sanity today, I begged the girls to play together nicely.

I went about my cleaning when I heard such noises as "vroom" , "watch out I'm coming around the corner", and "wheeee!"  The girls were playing cars with their newly acquired McDonald toys.  But they didn't have cars, they had plastic purses meant to hold a dog or cat.  The dog and cat had been discarded in favor of two Quint dolls and a Sleeping Beauty Polly Pocket.  The girls were crawling all around the floor with their "cars", zooming them up the ramp {aka garbage can} to park on top of the island {aka school}.  I loved hearing Lily say something in her pretend Sleeping Beauty voice only to have Allie repeat word for word in her pretend voice.  Lily is teaching Allie so many things without even knowing.

The girls played nicely for about an hour with their pretend cars before I ruined it by trying to take a picture.  Oh well at least I was done cleaning by then!

To be determined...

I used to be so good at blogging every day.  Not sure what happened, but it appears I'm lucky if I blog once a week let alone once a day.  That being said, thank you to all who have patiently waited for this "report"

We got a babysitter for Lily and Allie and excitedly drove the hour to the TWH.  They technicians got me in right away.   Russ had to be separated from me for a bit while they checked my cervix.  He was a little impatient about that.  Once he was allowed in the tech began checking me out and then the baby.

While searching for my placenta she stopped on the baby's face for a minute.  Russ and I both laughed as we saw the baby chomping away at something.  We couldn't tell if the baby was sucking its thumb but it definitely was moving its mouth.

After awhile the tech started showing us the heart, the spine, the leg bone, etc.  I kept watching that silly baby moving around.  I found it funny that the baby looked like a boxer.  Both hands were curled up by its face like it was getting ready to punch someone.  As the tech pushed really hard on me to get a picture of something the baby totally jumped.  On the screen it went from high to low to high again.  That even got the tech to crack a smile.

The tech finished taking measurements and told us that she needed to type up the report but to stay there.  After about five minutes she came back, handed me an envelope, and told us that we were all done and to give the envelope to the doctor.  Russ managed to sputter out, "well, aren't you going to check the gender"  The lady proceeded to tell us that she wouldn't be able to see anything because the baby was smaller than normal and I was early for a gender ultrasound anyways.  Russ prodded her to atleast check.  She sighed and said told us that unless the baby gave a "super clear" shot she wasn't going to say either way.  We agreed that was fine.

So after a few tense moments baby showed its stuff.  I turned to the tech and said, "That's a girl right?!"  She agreed and said she was fairly sure it was a girl but we should get it double checked and my next ultrasound.  So we have been telling family that it IS a girl because come on, if I could tell then it must have been a pretty clear shot.  Next month I do go in for another ultrasound which we'll double check the gender.

We did get to unfortunate bits of news from the ultrasound.  First because the baby is measuring small {16 weeks} the tech was unable to capture all the measurements she needed.  She couldn't even see the chambers of the heart because baby was so small.  The other news was that my placenta was close to my cervix.  We are hoping at the next ultrasound it will have migrated upwards so that I don't have to continue to have ultrasounds or ultimately have a c-section.  Wouldn't it be ironic to have a smaller baby but have it by c-section?!  I'm not stressed about either of these bits of news I'm just slightly annoyed that I have to make ANOTHER trip to TWC.  This will be my fourtth trip in four months.  I was only supposed to make four trips in my whole nine months.  Well, to stop dwelling on the bad I have two pics to show off sweet Baby Girls Jones  #3!

First up is BGJ's backbone

And then a lengthwise pic of BGJ where her head looks alienish!

And lastly I know I've said that I'm smaller this pregnancy and I was proved right when BGJ was measuring smaller but this belly shot really makes me look H.U.G.E...but I'm not I swear.  I got these fabulous pregnancy jeans on clearance for $6.  The only problem is that they don't fit me....yet.  If I jump around too much they actually fall off. LOL!  Since they are so big they poke out all over making me look much bigger than I am, including my belly.  Yeah, so don't think I'm a liar or anything....

Posers!

When we were taking my belly shots today the girls begged to have a picture of them taken.  They are such little posers!  Normally I will just pretend to take a picture and call it good.  But Daddy had the camera and he was going to take real ones.

Allie went first...

Lily went next but Allie still wanted a turn.  Lily was yelling at her, "Get out my picture Allie!"  Allie was blissfully posing still. LOL!

After a bit of drama Russ did get this lovely one of Lily.
{All I did for Lily's hair was give her bath the night before and quickly stabbed a flower in it.  Curly hair is starting to grow on me!}
