Family Update 4/28/08

Today in Idaho we have awesome blue skies! I would begin to think it is spring but I know that tomorrow is supposed to be like in the upper 40s low 50s. Clearly NOT spring weather. I haven't written an update in a little bit because I was computerless. Maybe I already told you guys about this, I don't remember. If I did....forgive me.

On our anniversary (April 16) Russ was looking up a good smoothie recipe to surprise me with. What he surprised me with instead was a computer virus. It attacked everything! Thankfully, Russ has a friend who "saved" our computer and most of our files. He cleaned it all up nicely for us. Even though it only took him a day, it took Russ a little longer to get all our files separated. Therefore, I didn't get to use the computer too much. The following Monday I decided to take a week long trip to see my parents in Utah. My parents don't have internet so I was computerless again.

Mine and Lily's week in Utah was pretty uneventful. Mom and dad worked most everyday, so Lily and I just bummed around their house. I did get a lot of my craft projects worked on though. One day my parents both had work off, so we went to Provo and went shopping. I got a pack n play for the baby, so she will now have somewhere to sleep for the first few months of her life! I also did some window shopping which I enjoyed. Lily was an angel the whole time, so it made it even more enjoyable. On Friday, I picked Russ up in Salt Lake. He had to do a reactor project at the U, so some classmates brought him down. Russ came back to my parents and we relaxed most of the weekend. We were able to go visit Cori and her fam on Saturday which was nice.

On our way home from Utah, I drove because Russ was tired and would have fallen asleep if he kept driving. Somewhere around the Utah/Idaho border we almost died. Some lady almost sideswiped us two different times! Not to mention that she almost rear ended us as well! The rear ending was partially my fault. I had to slow down because there was a large wood box in the road, and I couldn't get over to avoid. Apparently, the lady who was behind us, wasn't paying attention to what I was doing and almost hit us. Soon after that the lady switched lanes and started speeding up. She got half way past us and started coming back into our lane. I slammed on the breaks and our front end barely missed her back. Russ told me to floor it past her so we wouldn't have to deal with it. So I tried to....I got half way past and she started coming back into our lane again!!!! This time she jerked back into her lane as I slammed on my breaks. A few minutes later we did get by her and didn't see her again! The weird thing about this whole adventure was that earlier in the day when Russ had been driving through Park City another car merged into our lane, apparently not seeing us, and Russ had to slam on the breaks to avoid us from getting sideswiped. Maybe we should stop traveling on Sundays and that would solve the problem.

I don't think I told you guys this, but during my pregnancy I now have been diagnosed with the Gestational Diabetes. This whole thing isn't too bad, I take my blood a couple times a day, and I have to eat smaller meals, but I still can eat most stuff. It appears that I won't have to go on insulin because the diet is controlling everything. This makes me VERY happy! This is supposed to help me have a smaller baby than Lily as well. We'll see if that happens.

Lily is doing great. She hit another growth spurt, so the few summer clothes I have bought her probably won't last the summer. I don't know where she is getting this height thing from. It is really weird. She also is doing great with potty training. We made a breakthrough last week. She can know go potty with minimal accidents. This makes me happy since it has been a year and half in the making. She has wanted to go potty since she was 18 months old.

Russ will be quite busy these next two weeks because the semester is wrapping up. He has a bunch of paper work to get done. Some of which I get to read/proofread! Yeah! I think he is really looking forward to this summer though when he won't have any classes and he can focus exclusively on getting a lot done on his thesis.

So far our baby will be officially named Baby Girl Jones at the hospital.

Quick trip home

I've decided to take a trip home. I think I decided Friday night, and I am now leaving tomorrow morning. Russ thinks I'm silly since my parents were here just two weeks ago. But I want to get out of my house one last time before I enter the "no travel" time of my pregnancy. It will be just me and Lily driving down. I'll pick Russ up on Friday in Salt Lake since he has to go to a reactor there. Then we will be back Sunday night. Visiting my parents means that there will be a blogging hiatus. I still haven't convinced them to get the Internet. They kinda drag their feet about things like that. But I am excited to go. I will be picking up the baby's bassinet while I am down there! YAHOO! One more thing I can check off of my to do list. The funny thing is, I will probably make Russ set it up as soon as I get home, even though I still don't need it for two months. I am silly that way. I must be over prepared in order to reach some sense of peace within myself. Wow, I thought this entry was about going home....oh well!

Dentist?

Hey all of you that live here in town. I need a recommendation. I need to go to a dentist before my insurance runs out. But I don't know who to go to. What dentist do you go to, and do you like him?

A million things to write about!

Okay, so I don't have a million things to talk about, but clearly a few things. You sure can have a lot of things happen to you in just two days. Here is what I think is blog worthy of the past two days.

First off, yesterday I started my lovely "pricking" experience. It actually isn't so bad. The nurse taught me how to take my blood without causing a whole bunch of pain. The even better part about this whole experience is that I don't really have to change my diet much. The dietitian said my diet already looked pretty good, I just have to have a little bit better carb control at my meal times. That made me ecstatic! Now I don't have to deprive Russ and Lily of good food. I have been getting a bit of a math headache from doing the carb calculations but I am sure that will pass. I mean at one point in time in my life, math was my best subject and I enjoyed it.

On to the "less" enjoyable part of yesterday. My dear husband was trying to find a good recipe for a smoothie that he could make for our anniversary, when a virus attached itself to our computer. It wiped everything out. Luckily, Russ has a good friend who is a whiz at computers. He dropped what he was doing and came and helped. He was able to save most of our programs and our documents. I feel bad though because it took him most of the day. Russ had to help him, so he didn't get any homework done. Nor did Nathan. I feel bad they wasted a whole day saving our computer when they both are so busy with school. Russ still has to fiddle a little with our computer. He needs to reorganize our folders, and do some wizard programs on things like the printer, msnmessenger, etc. Hopefully, tomorrow it will all be back to normal!

Another less than enjoyable experience took place on Tuesday. I had sat Lily down to watch Dragon Tales so I could go take a bath. As I was standing in the tub waiting for the water to warm up, I suddenly started sliding, and fell flat on my bum. Well, I fell on my bum after hitting the side of the tub with my leg and hip. Instantly a two bruises sprang up on my leg. Also, the baby started moving around like crazy. This relieved me because at least I knew she was okay. I took the rest of the day easy because I was so sore! My back and tummy ached from being jarred that bad. My hips that had already been bothering me decided they were going to be extra sore as well. I felt completely better yesterday, other than my hips. I don't think they will get better.

Last but not least yesterday was our anniversary. As you can already see, the day didn't quite turn out as planned. We hadn't planned anything too spectactular, we just wanted to go to dinner. Since Sunday we had been trying to get a baby-sitter to no avail. I joked with Russ and told him that maybe we weren't supposed to go to dinner because we would get food poisining or something. Well something did happen, we had to fix our computer. Nathan was kind enough to work on it by himself while Russ, Lily, and I went to Ruby River. Lily was on her best behavior, so it wasn't too bad. I had given Russ a tieand a card as a present. He felt horrible and kept apologizing for the fact that he hadn't got me anything. He had planned on getting something on his way to work for me, but well that didn't happen because of the computer. I don't care though, I got to spend the day with him. That was enough for me! I had planned on putting some pics up of me and Russ "through the years" for anniversary. I guess that will have to wait until we get our computer finished tonight. So stay tuned for pics!

I have really been lacking on my chore list lately, so I thought I would put it at the end of this post so you don't have to read it if you don't want to. I have decided to abandon the hope of getting my house spotless before I have the baby. But I have come up with the goal to start packing any odds and ends that we don't need into boxes. Whether Russ knows it our not, we are moving from this house when our contract ends. Either that, or our house is going to have a lot less "junk" out and about. My first step in conquering this goal is to box up all the books in our bedroom. We haven't read/used any of them since we moved in, so they are going away!

I love story time!

Yesterday, I took Lily to the library for story time. Some days I hate doing this, because she will run around instead of sitting and listening to the library. I also don't like it some days because you can 20-30 two year olds in one room with their moms, and your kid can't see or hear because you are in the back. But yesterday we had a great time! We got there two mins earlier, and I thought we would have to grab a back seat. To my surprise there was only three other moms there with their kids! Wow! So we sat right in front. Lily ran around a little bit in the beginning, but then she came and sat on my lap once things got started. She sat with me the whole time, except when they did musical things. I was very pleased with her.

The real reason why I like story time though is that after they read a few books they do a small craft. Yesterday the talked about friends, so they had the kids make a paper doll friend. Lily really likes the coloring and gluing. As I talked to her about all the body parts and clothes she got them all right. Yeah! I then asked her what she wanted to name her "friend". She replied, "Daddy. He's my friend!" It was very sweet moment. Later when Russ came home she showed him her doll and said,"This is daddy friend." I love the comments little kids come up with!

Two weeks of Pics

Lily wanted to fingerpaint one day, so I let her. Apparently I forgot that she had a cold and had the habit of wiping her nose with the back of her hand! The paint was all over her face before I remembered!

On the last day of Russell's spring break he came home from work early. We decided to do something fun, so we took Lily to Blast Off (Think ChuckyCheese on a smaller scale). Lily had a lot fun playing in the ball pits. We also let her spend some money playing skiball. She got a little plastic watch and a bunch of candy as prizes.

I made this card for my visiting teaching people. Sorry the pics are so bad, I was in a HUGE hurry to get them mailed off.

It was finally warm enough for Lily to try out her chalk she got for Easter. It was a big hit.

Plain old fun! Jumping on the bed!

Trip to the Rexburg temple. Russ couldn't stop squinting at the sun. Lily wouldn't stop biting Russ's head. Oh well, we'll try again some time. Atleast I got a good shot of the temple!

Feeding the ducks with Grandma Lala and Papa Joe. Just one of the many fun things we did with them while they visited.

Week in review!

I debated whether I should do a bunch of short entries or one big one about this week. I guess I landed on one big entry. Here goes!

  1. I had a great time with my parents visiting this week. We did a TON of shopping. For some reason my mom can always find something up here that isn't in Utah that she needs. Why is it the other way around for me? I can hardly find anything I need up here. My mom also loves Porter's. We made it to not only the one here in Idaho Falls, but also the one up in Rexburg. I have come to decide they are clearly NOT the same, Rexburg is 10 times better. While they were here we went to the Rexburg temple grounds. Mom and Dad wanted to see it since they weren't able to make it to the open house due to weather. I took some great pics of my parents there. Pics of Russ, me, and Lily didn't turn out that good. Thanks for trying dad! Mom and I also spent some time scrapbooking. I got a page done while my mom "helped". I'll post it later, I still need to journal on it. Last but not least, Lily got to spend a lot of time with her grandparents. She loves her Papa Joe and Grandma Lala.
  2. I went and took my glucose test on Wednesday. I failed it. So I went back today and did the three hour blood test. I failed again! I wasn't even close to passing. This means I've gotta go see a diabetic counselor to learn about the diet and how to prick myself. After two weeks of poking and being on the diet, if my numbers are good, then I can just stick to what I am doing. If they are bad, I get to go on insulin. :(
  3. We fixed our camera! It only cost us twelve bucks! Okay, well actually it really shouldn't have cost anything, but let me explain. Our cord was not the problem, so I got online and talked to a Kodak specialist. Apparently, your memory card can randomly become unformatted with the computer program you use. So to get it work again with the cord, you have to format it. Well, I wasn't about to lose my pics I had took this week with my parents here! So last night we went and printed off all my pics and put them on CD (Hence the $12). I formatted the card, and whala.....It worked! I am so pleased that it was something minor like that.

Not much more has happened, but I will be posting some pics later today or tomorrow of the past two weeks. I don't know what I would do without my camera! Sorry this was so long!

The parents are coming!

My parents are coming to visit today! We are excited. Lily is actually ecstatic, and quite hyper. She loves to see Grandma La-La, and Papa Joe. The down part with my family visiting is that I probably won't blog much until Thursday or Friday. So I apologize if there is a blogging silence! Oh by the way, this is not the best pic of my parents, but I didn't want to find a better one, and have to scan it in!

I want to throw a tantrum!

So here is the story behind why i want to throw a tantrum. I just got back from looking at an apartment with Russ. It included the following: 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, walk in closets, a/c, GAS heating (That is a big deal here in IF/Rexburg), diswasher, washer/dryer hookups, HUGE storage area, a pantry( A VERY big deal for apts.), a large playground for Lily, and a community excercise room. Can you say perfect? Oh and lets not forget that the rent would be $550. There are 24 openings at this place currently. I want to move in now! But noooooooooo, we had to sign a year lease that doesn't end until August. So if I threw a tantrum, do you think our owners would let us out of our lease? Sigh....I didn't think so either! Hopefully, there will be an opening still in August.

Scrapbook and chores

Here is that scrapbook page I was working on yesterday. I actually got it done! I was not a happy camper yesterday, so I decided to do something for myself, and this is what I came up with. It has been a long time since I've scrapbooked. I am going to do another page today.

My chores have been lacking since my pregnancy is catching up with me. Today I feel okay....so I am going to try and get a few things done. Notice I say a FEW things!!!

1. Clean and vacuum living/dining room.

2. Clean Lily's booster.

3. Work on mom's present (I finally started it a couple days ago!)

4. Clean up my scrapbook area.

My Busy Little Girl

I've been pulling together a scrapbook page for this picture, so I thought I would share the pic and story behind it. This LOVELY day took place in September of 2006. We had just barely moved into the apartment we live in now. Lily had just barely turned one. I don't remember what I was doing, but I had my back turned to Lily. Lily came wondering over to show me her accomplishment. I couldn't help but laugh. I know I had put that stupid ink pad out of her reach, so I don't have any idea how she got. I took a few pics of her and then tried to run her a bath. I forgot our sprinklers were on so all I got was a teeny trickle of water. I walked outside our front door to turn them off when I heard a loud "Click"! Lily had closed the door behind me therefore locking me out of the house! Luckily I had my cell phone in my back pocket. I called Russ to come home and let me. He laughed the whole time I told him what had happened. While waiting for Russ to get there Lily and I stood face to face at our front window laughing at each other. By the time I gave Lily a bath she was stained green. It took about a week to get it all off! Lily has never lost her mischief streak. Just the other day I was sitting next to her while she was coloring with markers. Without me noticing she had used the black and red marker to color her hands. She said the were "pretty". Pretty annoying is what I thought! How did I miss her doing that when she was right next to me?

Baby's Nursery

I am so excited to announce that we FINALLY were able to buy this cute crib set. We never bought a crib set for Lily because my sister made us the cutest blanket and bumpers for her. The only problem is, that the blanket has now moved on to be Lily's comforter on her toddler bed. So we had to find something else. I saw this on the Target but wasn't sure if I liked it. I then went to visit Laura and she had gotten this for Miles. When I saw it I loved the look! As I went back and looked at the website I loved it even more! It was the cheapest set I have found. We ran into one problem....the internet was sold out as well as all stores close to us. Religously I checked the website to see if it would become "available". Low and behold for a couple hours it was. I quickly bought and am anxiously waiting for it to be delivered. We also got lucky and found the bedskirt on ebay! Still in the package, and selling for less than what Target used to sell it for. Apparently, Target will not be selling it anymore since it isn't on their website. We are soooooo lucky! When we get it on the bed I will share pics.
